MY clients

your story,

my words

There are stories everywhere you look. Your company or organisation is full of them too. And it is precisely these stories that make such a powerful form of communication. Stories can last for generations, connect, create commitment and strengthen brands.

Are you looking for stories for your magazine or other (online) publication? Do you lack the time to take interviews and write articles? Or would you just rather leave it to an expert?

I’m here to help. As an experienced journalist and content marketing writer, I write stories that’ll keep you reading from start to finish, for a wide range of companies, organisations, government bodies and journalistic media. I also help international media with reporting, fixing and research in The Netherlands, for example, The New York Times, The Washington Post and Al Jazeera.

Articles in Dutch or English

Do you want your article written in Dutch or English? Or do you need an interview conducted in English? I can help with that too. I have plenty of experience. I’ve written for English-language media like the BBC and The Guardian. I’ve earned a C2 proficiency certificate at the highest University of Cambridge level. And I always have my English texts double-checked by a native professional editor from my own network.

what do you need For your publication?

Content marketing stories

Content marketing stories do not directly promote a product or service. You can find them in (online) magazines or company websites. They usually contain interesting or useful information creating a positive association with a brand. Both staff and external experts feature in these stories.

Example: Wärtsilä: Swipe right for circular economy.

Case studies / customer stories

A case study or customer story is a bit like a testimonial from a customer. For example, about a problem solved. The information is more convincing than when told by the company or organisation themselves.

Example (Dutch): ABN AMRO: Elektrisch de steden bevoorraden.

Interviews

A personal interview focuses on the opinions, feelings and ideas of an interviewee. It gives readers a chance to get to know the person. It can be an in-depth interview of several pages for a newspaper or magazine or a shorter article in a staff magazine or website. Interviews can also be less personal and more geared toward a specific subject.

Example: Al Jazeera English: The cemetery of unknown refugees from the Mediterranean.

Feature stories

A feature or background story goes further than a news article; there is more room for details, information, tone and quotations. The author describes a place and what is happening there. Although this type of article is mainly found in journalistic media, organisations and companies also regularly use this genre, for example, in event coverage.

Example: BBC: Creating a buzz: Using bees to pull people out of poverty.

News items and press releases

Most companies and organisations regularly have interesting news for their target group, colleagues or a wider audience. For example, a new research study, product, interesting development or event. The news item can be part of a newsletter, website, or press release.

Example: Deltares: Managing flood and drought risks around the world better.

Advertorials

An advertorial can be found in a newspaper, magazine or website. It’s a combination of the words ‘advertisement’ and ‘editorial’. It’s an advertisement for a product or service, but presented as an article, often with interesting information or useful tips.

Example: Discover Benelux Magazine: The Netherlands’ most sustainable hotel.

White papers

A white paper explains how a product, service, technology or government policy solves a specific problem. It is typically between five and 25 pages and informs and convinces based on facts. Readers can usually download a white paper after providing an email address.

Example (in Dutch): ENTRNCE: Vertaal de RES-doelstellingen naar concreet beleid.

WHAT CLIENTS SAY

“I edit the BBC News Website’s entrepreneurship and small business features. I recently commissioned Thessa to write a feature on the Tunisian wine industry. Thessa got in touch to pitch the idea, and then wrote an excellent feature ahead of the deadline. I would not hesitate to commission her again.”

– Will Smale, Business reporter BBC News

“Thessa Lageman was part of our campaigns and communications team at several instances in the last couple of years. She produced different materials for us, from in depth articles to online content. We have come to know her as very professional and thorough. Thessa has extensive knowledge of middle eastern subjects which she translates into approachable and informative texts.”

– Saskia Grootegoed, Online Campagnes & Communicatie Manager Amnesty International

“Thessa is a conscientious hard worker. She puts a lot of effort in preparing for interviews, is modest but determined, calm but critical and works long hours without complaining. Furthermore she is a brave and independent journalist, that can be funny too.”

– Wieneke Gunneweg, hoofdredacteur Erasmus Magazine, Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam

“Thessa and I have worked together several times; she has written interesting texts and proved to be always reliable and efficient. A pleasure to work with such a professional journalist. I will certainly come back to her when new opportunities appear!”

– Maria Gallo, Project Manager Tipik Communication Agency, Brussels

“Thessa has been an integral part of our content creation program for a major cruise line. Time and again, she’s shown us she can reliably manage the high volumes of very detailed content under deadline while meeting — and often exceeding — the high standards of both our client and our internal editing team. If you need an expert writer for travel content on Europe and the Middle East, there’s no question: Thessa should be at the top of your who’s-who list.”

- Jesse Mack, Senior Editorial Manager Skyword Content Marketing Platform.

“Thessa has been a valued contributor to Discover Benelux magazine since July 2016. She is a very skilled writer and adapted to our house style with ease. Quick to respond and reliable, she produces articles that are informative, accurate and a pleasure to read.”
